There are two different intakes in Finland for international students applying for higher education.
Autumn Intake:
Autumn intake starts in September, which is also known as “primary intake,” where the universities offer all the courses for international students. Take a look at the timeline so that you do not miss anything.

- December: Shortlist the universities that you want to apply to.
- January to February: Prepare for tests like IELTS, TOEFL, or GRE according to the requirements of the university to which you wish to apply.
- February to March: Prepare your statement of purpose (SOP). Applications to universities are open, so start applying.
- March to April: Wait for an offer letter. Accept the offer.
- June to July: Apply for a visa.
- July to August: Book your ticket.
- September: Semester starts.
Spring Intake:
Spring intake starts in January, which is also known as “secondary intake,” where universities offer plenty of courses for students who missed the autumn intake. Here is a timeline for you!
